They open up a little bit bigger and look absolutely beautiful. This was my first one, so I couldn't help but snap a shot of it.
Even though my squash, zucchini, and cucumber plants aren't really producing anything (other than blossoms), I think they are my favorite. There's something so amazing about how they grow. It just re-emphasizes to me that God has created every last thing on this earth to not only serve a function, but also to sustain its' life.
I don't know how clearly you can see what I took a picture of, but the photo on the top is a little vine that just sprouted out and formed a perfect little curl. The photo on the bottom is a little easier to see, but a vine sprouted and reached out to grab and wrap around a nearby branch to help support it. I mean really, do all these beautiful and amazing things happen accidentally? I wholeheartedly believe not.
One of Carter's favorite things is to go outside and help me with the garden. He'll stand at the sliding glass door and ask to go to the garden all day long - until I take him out there. At first he liked to just walk around the plants and sort of pet them. He'd touch the leaves and just kind of look at it. Now he likes to take the little watering can and pretend like he's watering the plants - just like mommy. :)
I can't wait to have a bigger garden that he can really help me with. And like his buddy Parker, I'd love for Carter to want to eat some of the food right out of the garden. I think my best bet to get him started doing that would be to plant some strawberries. (Today for lunch he had a pint of strawberries and a big handful of raspberries. He cried when I asked him to eat yogurt or a sandwich. At least he's hooked on fruit..)
This picure is a few weeks old, but I thought it was cute. That's my mom teaching Carter to drink out of the hose. :) We were doing yard work in the front of the house and Carter just couldn't leave the hose alone. After he figured out how to squeeze the handle, it was downhill from there. He had lots of fun that day with my mom.
Anyway, back to the garden. I still only have one tomato. But it's growing, slowly but surely. My gypsy pepper plant hasn't grown anything yet, but it is sporting a few pretty little white blossoms. And it's about the same with my jalapeno plant. It had 3 peppers on it when I bought it, and we've picked all three. The first one wasn't spicy at all, and Matt just ate the other two. He said they were definitely better than the first. I've got some more flowers though, so maybe I'll have some more peppers soon.
My herbs are doing ok. My basil is growing like crazy. I may transplant it to a bigger pot so it can be my itself. My rosemary never even sprouted, but I think I know what I did wrong with that one. My cilantro is coming in little by little, and my oregano is pretty thin right now. So we'll see what happens.
I'm thinking about making a Shepherd's Pie for dinner tonight. If I do, I'll upload some pictures and a recipe! If I don't, it's because Matt beat me to the ground beef in the fridge while I'm at my doctor appointment. If I had to guess what he might make, it'd be tacos. You'd think we were Mexican in this house...
